  1.                       WELCOME TO GARLIC MAGIC
  2.                           (Version 1.0)
  3.  
  4.           The entire Garlic Magic program is contained in the self-
  5.      extracting program named GARLIC.EXE.
  6.  
  7.           The compression method is LHARC which is copyrighted by
  8.      Haruyasu Yoshizaki (1989).
  9.  
  10.           It is a very simple process to extract the program from the
  11.      compressed version.  You first decision will have to be whether
  12.      you want to read the data from your hard drive or if you want to
  13.      run the program from a floppy disk.
  14.  
  15.           Simply type in the word INSTALL and follow along or you can
  16.      use the method descibed below.
  17.  
  18.           If you want to use your hard disk, you should first make a
  19.      separate directory for Garlic Magic.  (This is not imperative,
  20.      you could use any directory you already have established.)
  21.  
  22.           To make a special directory on your hard drive, use the
  23.      following command:

  25.                             MD GARLIC
  26.  
  27.      followed by an enter.  (You can name the directory any name that
  28.      suits your fancy.)
  29.  
  30.           Once you have the directory established, change to it by:
  31.  
  32.                             CD\GARLIC
  33.  
  34.      again followed by an enter.  Now your prompt will show C:\GARLIC>
  35.      and you are ready to extract the program.
  36.  
  37.           Place your Garlic Disk into either the a: or b: drive and
  38.      from the C:\GARLIC> prompt, type a: (or b: depending on where you
  39.      have the disk) GARLIC.  Like so:

  41.                        C:\GARLIC>a:garlic
  42.  
  43.      followed by an enter and the program will decompress and show the
  44.      progression on your screen.
  45.  
  46.           When finished decompressing, type GO followed by an enter
  47.      and the program will run.
  48.  
  49.                          FOR FLOPPY DISKS
  50.  
  51.           If you intend to run it from a floppy disk, you will need a
  52.      3½" or high density 5¼" disk to hold all the files.  Either disk
  53.      must be formatted!  (A plain Jane 360K disk will work but the
  54.      program takes about 320,000 bytes so there can be no flaws on
  55.      your disk or you will run out of space.  The 360K disk is not
  56.      recommended!)

  58.           Place the GARLIC MAGIC disk in a 5¼ drive and change your
  59.      drive prompt to the appropriate drive which contains your new
  60.      empty disk and enter the following command:

  62.                          B:\>a:garlic
  63.  
  64.      followed by enter.  (Change the drive letters appropriately.  If
  65.      your 5¼" drive is B and your 3½ drive is A, then the command to
  66.      type is:

  68.                          A:\>b:garlic
  69.  
  70.           The program will extract to your new disk.  When finished,
  71.      just type GO followed by an enter to view the data.
  72.  
  73.           A word of caution----don't try to decompress onto the 360K
  74.      disk the program came on -- it WILL decompress until the disk is
  75.      full and you will receive a 'write error' and it will stop.

  79.           To simplify your registration, there is an registation form
  80.      on this disk.  To print it, make sure your printer is turned on
  81.      and type

  83.                       PRINT A:REGISTER.FRM
  84.  
  85.      followed by an enter.  If you are asked what printer, just hit
  86.      enter and it will print.  As before, change the drive letters to
  87.      the appropriate ones for your computer.
